If you are…
- Struggling to sell physical products online
- Constantly questioning whether your ads are sparking the interest of your audience
- Wishing your sales would increase
Then Read on! You’re about to see how one key element can increase your sales up to 85%
A little while ago, I got a phone call from my mom. Excited that she had sold her first 100 t-shirts online – she was killing it on Teespring!
If you haven’t heard of Teespring, it’s a platform that allows you to sell your t-shirt designs.
A few months prior to this, my family and I were all in Florida escaping the Canadian winter. Inside our camper, parked at Disney’s Fort Wilderness campground, was one hell of a Teespring operation – I can’t make this up.
Now, even in the nicest of trailers, there’s not a whole lot of room (especially with 5 people and 4 dogs squished inside. Yes, this is a true story.)
Working space was limited, so we were often squished around the same table. It wasn’t long before my mom became aware of the t-shirts I was selling, and how much money was being made doing it.
Now, selling physical products online isn’t just about great ad copy and flashy pictures.
There’s a major piece of the puzzle that’s doing a lot of the selling…
After arriving back home, I received a few weird phone calls from my mom asking about setting up Facebook ads.
Basically, she witnessed our success and decided to go out on her own, and give it a whirl. She already had t-shirt design ideas, and had (for the most part) figured out the basics of using Facebook ads to send visitors to her offers.
(Trust me, I know how crazy this sounds. I was just as much shocked as I was excited when I saw how brilliant the designs and ad targeting were.)
Next thing I knew, I received that phone call I just told you about. And to date, she’s sold thousands of dollars worth of merchandise with very little prior experience.
Now let’s answer the big question:
How did my mom sell thousands of dollars of physical products online… with so little marketing experience?
(side note: this is applicable to ANY product… not just t-shirts!)
The answer is fairly simple.
As her targets scrolled through their news feed, they saw a picture of a t-shirt that had something important to them splattered across it’s front. Whether it be their name, hometown or a hobby they enjoyed, the content of that shirt felt like it was unique to their interests.
Customers felt the product belonged to them before they ever hit the “buy it now” button.
A lot of people fall under the belief that customers make buying decisions with a rational approach. So they overanalyze details like the features of their product or pricing structure.
There’s no denying that these impact buying decisions… but there’s one hugely influential aspect to sales that often gets overlooked: Emotion.
To be fair, even customers don’t always realize their emotions are at play when they make a purchase. Understandable since we are not often consciously aware of these feelings.
That’s no excuse, however, for you to not take notice.
Studies have shown, businesses that optimize their emotion connection with customers see an 85% increase in sales growth – we’re not talking chump change here!
The reason my mom was so successful is because she created designs that tapped into her markets’ emotions, and hit close to home.
Her designs hit so close to home that she even bought some of her own shirts! She just had to have them because the shirt reflected an aspect of herself that she was proud to show off.
Psychologically, this is the same process your customer goes through during every buying decision.
On a daily basis, we witness approximately 247 ad images per day!
That makes our job as marketers a nightmare. So we have to find a way to stick out amongst the noise. Which is why playing on your customers emotional side is such a strong tool.
As your designing your shirts, choosing an affiliate product to promote or looking for a physical product to sell online… consider the emotion connection your market will have and play on it.
Consider: What about your product sticks out personally to your prospect?
When your target feels like your product already belongs to them, getting them to click the buy button becomes a whole lot easier.
