[PROBLEM] In an increasingly busy and media-infested world, more often than not people fall behind in checking their social accounts and miss private messages.
Even though you don’t have their email address, Google can help you get it. Read on.
We’re all insanely busy (or just goofing off) and miss our PMs. Even though some of those media can send an email to alert us when people reach out, very often we skim right past it and it’s gone forever. I do this myself so when somebody doesn’t reply to me I don’t get angry. Can you relate?
Hey — I want to connect but the guy doesn’t reply
In my post on ways to improve connecting on Facebook you received a friend request from Joe Smith. Using the strategy of checking him out before confirming the request, you first went to his Facebook page and found that you and Joe have a lot in common. Let’s increase the stakes and say that you discovered he’s working in a field related to yours, and you’d like to connect for business purposes. You confirmed his friend request — But days went by and Joe didn’t reply. I’ll bet you’d love to have Joe’s email address right about now.
Google can help you get that email
Here’s a search query you can use that will either pull it up directly or help you narrow things down so you can make a good guess at it. Enter the following into the Google search box: *@[Domain] In this case it would be Joe’s company…you’d type in: This will pull up all pages in the Google database which include email addresses for that domain. Maybe Joe’s email will be in there somewhere. Warning: this technique may pull up a ton of pages that you’ll have to dig through, so let’s shorten your search time.
How to make a good guess at his email
As you go through a few pages you see how ABC employees format their email addresses. In example: [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] In all likelihood we can guess that Joe’s email address is: [email protected]
Works with Skype, LinkedIn and more
If Joe uses that same email in his Skype account, it’ll pop up with his Skype ID. Sweet. And it’s the same with LinkedIn, Twitter and many others. That said, it doesn’t apply if the person uses a different email address with these accounts. If it works for you, drop me a line and let me know. Got a comment on this?
