Yeah, I know I know, summer is all about having fun, and drinking the beers at the BBQ, but you may want to think twice about how many brewskies you take down.
Why you ask?
Well, there are so many people walking around with projects and businesses they are working on who need help with their social media and their marketing.
I went to a BBQ over the weekend and I met one dude that was publishing a book and another who had a small business with no social media presence. If you have some knowledge of social media and PPC Marketing then you know much more than most people who walk this planet when it comes to marketing through social media and getting more business with the power of social media.
There are tons of opportunities to make money that are going to be right under our noses everyday, especially at a BBQ! With all the skills I know that you have from the wealth of knowledge of Facebook courses in our industry, we can sing all the way to the bank just by simply saying the right things to get the business.
But What Do You Say?
Pay attention here because it is very easy to mess this part up and I don’t want you to mess up an opportunity! Be prepared for this scenario because you are going to want to tell the person everything but you need to keep it simple. You want to say what you do in the simplest way possible in the shortest amount of time. This is the part where it helps to be sober….but if you are not sober, make sure you have what you want to say memorized so you can’t F*CK it up!
Having simple statements like, “I help people get more exposure and more customers through social media, specifically Facebook.” This will spark up a nice conversation leaving your new friend wanting to know more.
Have Examples of Your Success
Even if you’ve never worked with another person or business before, that’s ok. Make sure you have some stories or examples of how you helped someone or what you did to make your own business grow. This part is self bragging and that is PERFECTLY OK. People need your help. Realize this. If you sprinkle some accomplishments in your conversation that will add fast and instant credibility. Know your accomplishments and be ready to brag about em.
Don’t Make This Huge Mistake
So, if you meet someone at a BBQ, they are probably a friend of a friend or maybe even a relative of your friend. Be upfront that your services are NOT FOR FREE. A lot of times you will have a great conversation and the person will think that just because you are “friends” that you will “help them out”. Don’t let that happen. You need to get paid for your time and make sure you are clear about that from the beginning so you don’t waste your time! People will respect you more and nothing of quality is free…remember that!
Don’t Make This Other Huge Mistake
The last thing you want to do is waste your time, as I already said above but is worth mentioning again. Make sure this person is highly qualified and is ready for you to help them. If they are wishy washy and they have a lot of excuses and not a lot of direction, they may not be ready for you. Now, if you are up for the journey and you want to work with someone to get the experience, then by all means, go for it. But just make sure the project is worth your time and energy. There are always opportunity costs involved with taking on a new client so choose your time wisely.
It Will Get Better Over Time
Now, don’t expect to be amazing at this your first or second time around. Perfecting what you say to people and how you say it will improve over time. You might even mess up your first couple of times. You might even be too drunk and have a scrambled message and be all over the place. That’s OK – you live and you learn and you know how to improve for next time and you will.
The more you practice this, the better you get….it’s like anything. But you can’t let these opportunities pass you by because you never know the next person you are going to meet and how they can impact your business and even more, how you can impact theirs! Now go and get em!
PS – after you are done landing the client, ie, you have the check in your hand or money in your Paypal account, then you can celebrate!!
